Over 90% construction completed of new runway: MACL

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed over 90% of the construction of the new runway developed in Velana International Airport (VIA) has been completed. Preparations are fast underway to conclude the runway development project, according to MACL.
The taxi way constructed to connect the new runway with the existing runway is almost complete, Managing Director of MACL Adil Moosa stated speaking with PSM News. Moreover, Adil Moosa added establishing signs on the new runway are also fast underway with a huge part of the project now completed.
One of the main part of the one billion dollar mega project to expand the main gateway of Maldives, is the construction of the new runway. The new runway which is 3,400 metre long and 65 metre wide can easily accommodate aircraft such as the Airbus A380.
MACL expects to complete the runway by the end of the month and begin test flights in September.
