MDP has not submitted 10,000 re-registration forms: EC

Elections Commission of the Maldives has denied Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has submitted 10,000 re-registration forms.
Refuting rumors regarding re-registration, the elections commission assured 10,000 forms have not been submitted by MDP or the joint opposition coalition. Moreover, the elections commission also refuted rumors stating the original slips were not handed over. The elections commission revealed as forms are submitted in bundles, there might be delays in providing re-registration slips, adding, however, all the slips were issued.
Furthermore, the electoral body noted a total of 27,000 forms were submitted to the commission so far. On July 17, the elections commission opened opportunity to re-register to vote in an island other than the island a citizen is registered at.
The electoral body has opened opportunity to re-register until August 11. The elections commission has boosted preparations for the upcoming presidential election scheduled to be held on September 23.
