The working group meeting on policy, regulations and services of South Asian Telecommunication Regulator's Council (SATRC) has commenced in Maldives. The two-day workshop held at Kaani Hotel in Maafushi Island in Kaafu Atoll was inaugurated by Chief Executive of Communications Authority of Maldives Ilyas Ahmed.
The working group meeting on policy, regulations and services of SATRC will see discussions on further enhancing telecommunications services and facilities in South Asian countries, Deputy Director of Communications Authority Zulaikha Ibrahim revealed speaking with PSM News. While new technology is being introduced, and even though Maldives has rolled out broadband, some other countries within the region face connectivity issues which will be discussed during the meeting, added Zulaikha.
16 delegates from 8 countries from the South Asia Pacific region including Afghanistan, Iran, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will attend the meeting, according to the Communications Authority. Furthermore, experts from the South Asia Telecom Regulatory Zone will also participate in the working group meeting.
The SATRC meeting is held annually to discuss and coordinate regulatory and other related issues in the areas of telecommunication, and Information and communication technology that are common for the regulators of SATRC member countries.
