Gulhifalhu to be made hospitable for inhabitants

Minister of Environment Thoriq Ibrahim has stated before the completion of Villimale' 2 housing project on Gulhifalhu, a solution would be provided for the issue of smoke rising from Thilafushi disturbing residents.
Speaking on a talk show aired on PSM News, Minister Thoriq Ibrahim said, although Gulhifalhu had earlier been designated as an uninhabitable region, the current administration has announced the Villimale' 2, mega housing project on Gulhifalhu.
The minister justified the government's decision stating that although Gulhifalhu was in fact uninhabitable at the time of the announcement to that effect, the situation has now changed with the beginning of the government's efforts to bring a sustainable solution to the factors that made the area uninhabitable. The environment minister said the government has plans to implement a project worth USD 30 million, to change waste management strategies utilised on Thilafushi.
President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom announced the Villimale' 2, mega housing project was in his nationwide address on the occasion of the 53rd Independence Day of Maldives.
