Sri Lankan firm contracted to establish sewerage facilities in 20 islands

Under the initiative of the government to provide adequate sewerage facilities to the citizens, Fenaka Corporation Limited has contracted projects to establish sewerage facilities in 20 islands to a Sri Lankan-based Haycarb Private Limited. The agreement was signed by Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation Limited Mohamed Lam'aan and Managing Director of Haycarb Rajitha Kariyawasan.
Under the agreement, sewerage facilities must be established in Maarandhoo and Vashafaru of Haa Alifu Atoll, Vaikaradhoo and Finey of Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Foakaidhoo of Shaviyani Atoll, Maafaru and Lhohi of Noonu Atoll, Kinolhas of Raa Atoll, Maalhos and Goidhoo of Baa Atoll, Olhuvelifushi of Lhaviyani Atoll, Gulhi of Kaafu Atoll, Felidhoo of Alifu Alifu Atoll, Keyodhoo of Vaavu Atoll. Dhigurah of Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, Hirilandhoo of Thaa Atoll, Dhehvadhoo of Gaafu Alifu Atoll and Hoadehdhoo of Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
Speaking at the function, Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim stated the government aims to establish sewerage facilities in all the islands of the Maldives, adding the government has in its first term established sewerage facilities in 22 islands. Meanwhile, Managing Director Mohamed Lam'aan assured to continue to provide island communities with electricity, water, sewerage and waste management services.
Haycarb must complete the USD 53 million project within a period of one and half years, according to the agreement.
