Government of Maldives has inaugurated the newly constructed building of Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital with the introduction of new services. To address issues faced by the hospital due to lack of space, the government constructed a six-storey building.
The new building began its operation with newly introduced dental services and thalassemia testing facilities, according to Health Services Manager at Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital Ahmed Sajid. He further revealed specialist doctor consultations, laboratory services and pharmacy services will now be available from the new building, adding some services such as X-ray, physiotherapy and some administrative works will still be available from the old building.
The newly constructed building has increased the capacity of Lhaviyani Atoll Hospital to 48-beds. The hospital consists of two operation theatres, private wards, AC wards and executive wards. The project was completed at a cost of over USD 3.2 million and was funded by the state budget. Around 120 patients attain services from the hospital on a daily basis, according to statistics.
