President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has declared July 29 as a public holiday.
The President's decision was made due to the Independence Day festivities being postponed to Saturday evening. A high number of school students and civil servants are involved in the activities.
Government offices will reopen on July 30, according to President's Office.
