Civil Court to work at night to clear backlogs

Civil Court of Maldives has revealed plans to introduce a night shift to conduct trials to meet the increase in the number of cases submitted to the court.
The statement issued by the Civil Court publishing the statistics of the first six months said the number of cases have increased obliging to introduce a night shift. Necessary arrangements are made to commence the trial proceedings at night, revealed the statement. As Civil Court prepares to introduce night court, it is notable that in rare cases, some other courts also hold trials at night. 3,141 cases were received by the court by July 9, which is an increase of 1,322 cases compared to same period of last year, according to statistics of Civil Court. Statistics reveal the number of concluded cases also increased this year compared to last year.
In this regard, the court within the first six months concluded 2,149 cases, while 1,278 cases were concluded last year.
