Customs service to check baggage of Bangladeshi nationals

Maldives Customs Service has begun checking the baggage of Bangladeshi nationals arriving in Maldives.
Maldives Customs Service made the decision following the increased amount of drugs confiscated from Bangladeshi nationals arriving in Maldives within the past two months and to control trafficking of illegal drugs to the country.
Revealing information about the decision, Senior Superintendent of Customs Ahmed Niyaz said the baggage of Bangladeshi nationals arriving with work visa will be checked, adding it will undergo a scanning process and if necessary will be opened and checked by a customs officer.
While the customs service began a special operation to check the baggage of Bangladeshi work permit holders, it is notable that such operations were held in the past.
