Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives Dr. Mohamed Asim has sent a message of condolence to Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Taro Kono following the torrential rain, deluges and landslides in Japan.
In the message, Minister Asim stated that he is deeply saddened to learn the news of the tragic loss of lives and extensive damage to property and infrastructure caused by the torrential rain, flooding and landslides across Western areas of Japan. Moreover, on behalf of the government and the people of Maldives, the minister conveyed his deepest sympathies and condolences to Taro Kono, the government and the friendly people of Japan.
Flooding in Japan killed at least 60 people and forced 2 million people to flee their homes as heavy rain pounded large areas in south-western Japan. At least 51 people have been injured and another 36 people are missing, according to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency of Japan.
