Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has stated the development of Maavarulu Airport in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll has been boosted with the help of extra machinery. The airport will be developed with a runway of 1,200 metres.
Currently, work is conducted to sub-grade and compact the runway, General Manager of MTCC Mohamed Husham said while speaking with PSM News regarding the latest developments on the project. He further revealed tarring of the runway will begin by the end of next month, adding the area for the development of the jetty has now been reclaimed. A jetty will also be developed as a part of the airport development project, according to MTCC.
The development project of Maavarulu Airport costs over USD 3.7 million and is funded by the state budget. MTCC aims to complete the airport by the end of August.
