Fainu: An example of all-inclusive development policy

Fainu is famous for its natural beauty and is the largest island in Raa Atoll.
With a population below 500, the main source of income for the island is through fishing and agriculture. Even though the population of the island is small, the government has been conducting various projects to develop the island.
In this regard, the development of the harbour was an important project to advance the transportation and economy of the island. The project was conducted by Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) at a cost of over USD 1.9 million.
While we take a look at the island, it proves the government does not prioritise just the islands with high population while conducting development projects. The residence of the atoll dreams of a second airport in the atoll which will be developed in Fainu in efforts to enhance the transportation sector of Maldives.
In this regard, the development of the airport in Fainu is contracted to Island Aviation Services Limited and will cost USD 7.9 million. President of Fainu Council states the airport project will bring enhancement to the economic and financial sector of the island. The airport will be developed with a city hotel.
