Maldives responds to the press release by India

The government of Maldives has responded to the press release by the government of India, regarding the political situation in the Maldives.
In a statement issued on June 14, the Indian government stated the political situation has worsened over the past couple of days following the verdict of Supreme Court on February 1 calling to put forth collective dialogue to solve the current issues experienced in Maldives. The statement noted former President Maumoon and two judges were sentenced without a fair trial.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Maldivian government stated, the Criminal Court sentenced former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom and Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed as per national laws, regulations and procedures governing the criminal justice system in the Maldives.
The Government of Maldives also reiterated its commitment to upholding the rule of law and reassures that all criminal proceedings are carried out in compliance with the relevant laws and the Constitution of the Maldives.
