The 22nd session of Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC) has concluded with the active participation of Maldives.
The delegation of Maldives revealed the session was very successful for G16 coastal states and Maldives, adding serious progress was made on Maldives led proposal on Allocation of fishing opportunities this year. Coastal states united to conserve fisheries resources, also revealed the Maldivian delegation.
Moreover, Adam Ziyad from the Maldivian delegation was elected as Vice Chair of IOTC while Hussain Sinan from the Maldivian delegation was elected as the Chair of the Standing Committee on Administration and Finance.
During the session, Maldives submitted proposals on allocations of fishing opportunities, interim capacity reduction measures, protections for mobula and manta rays and strengthening port transhipments. Furthermore, Maldives introduced a proposal on allocation criteria for tuna species for Maldives and 10 other coastal states in the 22nd session of IOTC.
IOTC is an intergovernmental organisation responsible for the management of tuna and tuna-like species in the Indian Ocean. The 22nd of IOTC was held from May 21 to 25 at Bangkok, Thailand.
