Maldives has become the most vibrant country in South Asia: Pakistan

Ambassador of Pakistan Vice Admiral Retired Wasim Akram has stated Maldives has become the most vibrant and beaming country in the South Asian region with the initiation of several revolutionary development projects across the country.
The two countries have a strong bond based on mutual respect and a non-intervention policy which has cemented relations over the years, Ambassador Vice Admiral Retired Wasim Akram noted speaking on Talk Maldives television programme aired on PSM News. In this regard, the newly appointed Pakistani Ambassador said Maldives, especially the capital city, has transformed from a sleeping town to become a beaming city with modern infrastructure. Ambassador Wasim Akram said the efforts of the administration is commendable as the country is witnessing a new era of fast development.
Continuing on, the Pakistani Ambassador noted the time is right to establish concrete trade relations between the two countries. In this regard, Ambassador Wasim Akram noted the trade ties remained weak due to the absence of direct flights or shipping lines between the two countries.
Furthermore, Ambassador Wasim Akram refuted rumors claiming that Pakistan is not safe for foreigners and assured that the government of Pakistan is capable of ensuring the safety and security of the country.
Pakistan is amongst the first countries that established diplomatic relations with Maldives when it gained independence. Maldives and Pakistan have shared a friendly relationship due to similar religious, social and economic aspects. In addition, the countries are members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
