HDC seeks contractors for key structures in Hulhumale' phase II

In an invitation of tenders released, Housing Development Corporation Limited (HDC) has invited sealed tenders from eligible bidders for construction of harbour 2, channel 2 and beach formation in Hulhumale'.

With 244 hectares of land reclaimed for Hulhumale' Phase II, HDC has been conducting various developmental projects as part of the efforts of the government to begin populating the new urban area. The earmarked projects include road construction, shore protection, establishing housing units and the development of other commercial buildings. With the target of populating phase II this year, government has embarked on several projects of landscaping.

One of the most important projects to be conducted is the construction of a channel to separate the economic zone from residential area. The 950-metre long and 25-metre wide channel will also be used as a recreational area, according to the corporation. HDC further noted no sea vessels can travel through the channel and the residential area will be connected with the economic zone through a bridge.

The corporation said the harbour in Hulhumale' Phase II will be developed for economic use. The harbor will comprise of a floating platform and walkway, added HDC and noted a causeway will be constructed to connect the residential and the economic zone along with the harbour.
