ACC files to recover over USD 116 million

Anti-Corruption Commission of Maldives (ACC) has filed several cases of corruption to recover over USD 116 million. ACC filed several cases of corruption at Prosecutor General's Office to recover USD 116 million lost to the state between 2009 and 2017, according to the annual report of 2017.

The highest number of cases were filed from 2017, which included the corruption case of Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC). ACC sent 356 memos to various government institutions during 2017, mostly to island councils and government-affiliated companies, according to statistics. The report further outlined that a total of 817 cases were filed at ACC in 2017.

ACC, established in 2008, is mandated to investigate corruption offenses, create public awareness and the promotion of integrity in all spheres of governance and recommendation of best practices.
