Government strives to solve housing issues in Maldives: Minister

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has stated the administration has a realistic vision of bringing a long term solution to the housing issues faced in Maldives due to the negligence of previous governments.

The administration aims to address the housing difficulties faced by citizens, Housing Minister Mohamed Muizzu revealed speaking at a press conference. In this regard, Minister Muizzu noted the administration has been successful in implementing the construction of 7,000 social housing units, in addition to the 1,600 housing units for middle class citizens. In the press briefing, the Minister revealed civil servants, doctors, nurses, teachers, newlyweds and people with disabilities will be given a priority when providing housing units.

In addition, more than 250 housing units would be allocated for residents residing in congested areas of the capital city. On this note, Minister Muizzu noted citizens would be provided with housing units from Hulhumale' while the congested areas are redeveloped under the Male' block development project.
