The President has conveyed Pakistan Day felicitations to the President and Prime Minister of Pakistan.
President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom conveyed felicitations and good wishes, in separate messages, to President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. In his messages, the President noted that the historic and multi-faceted ties that the Maldives and Pakistan have shared for over five decades are characterized by mutual respect, understanding, shared values and common faith.
Highlighting that security cooperation, cultural exchanges, knowledge-sharing and people-to-people contact between the Maldives and Pakistan have gone from strength to strength in recent years, the President renewed his commitment to continue working closely with the government of Pakistan to further explore untapped opportunities for cooperation between the two friendly countries and uplift existing ties to even greater heights in the years to come.
Pakistan Day commemorates the Lahore Resolution passed on March 23, 1940 that eventually led to the adoption of the first constitution of Pakistan on March 23, 1956.
