Government presses terrorism charges against 9 individuals

The state has pressed terrorism charges against nine individuals. 

The case was forwarded to the Criminal Court by the Prosecutor General's Office.

The state pressed terrorism charges against the former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom; Gayoom's son Faris Maumoon; Gayoom's son-in-law Mohamed Nadheem; Chief Justice Abdulla Saeed; Justice Ali Hameed; Ilham Ahmed and Abdulla Sinaan in addition to two former Police Commissioners Ahmed Areef and Abdulla Riyaz. They have been charged with terrorism, for their alleged involvement in an attempt to overthrow the government.

Moreover, Abdulla Saeed and Ali Hameed have been charged for accepting bribes and for obstruction of justice as wwll, while opposition politician Gasim Ibrahim's son, Ibrahim Siyad Gasim has been charged with bribery. Additional charges have been raised against Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, Ali Hameed and Abdulla Saeed for with withholding evidence.
