Legal action for those who are found to be in contempt of court

Criminal Court of Maldives has said legal action would be taken against those who are found to be in contempt of court. In the press statement, the Criminal Court refuted comments made by the defense attorney of Chief Justice Judge Abdulla Saeed, criticizing the presiding judge in the Chief Justice's trial.

Commenting on the case, the defense attorney had been reported to have stated that the case is being heard according to the whims and fancies of the presiding judge. 

However, the Criminal Court assured that the Chief Justice would be given a fair trial, even though the Criminal Procedures Act has been suspended during State of Emergency. Furthermore, Criminal Court stated rights will be fully ensured unless a situation arises that mandates otherwise.

Condemning the propagation of false information regarding theproceedings, the Criminal Court noted that every detail was delivered correctlyto the lawyer's team of Judge Abdulla Saeed.

Criminal Court, in the statement, warned of legal actions to those disseminating false information regarding court proceedings.
