Maldivian efforts in tackling terrorism is acknowledged- Shareef

Ambassador of Maldives to Sri Lanka Mohamed Hussain Shareef has stated that the international community has accepted and acknowledged the efforts of Maldives in tackling terrorism and violent extremism. The administration of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has made great strides in combating terrorism and violent extremism by collaborating with various local and international stakeholders, said Ambassador Mohamed Hussain Shareef while addressing a press conference.

Mohamed Hussain Shareef described efforts by former President Mohamed Nasheed to portray Maldives as a a country that tolerates an extremist religious ideology, as unacceptable. Ambassador Shareef noted that, the purpose of such acts is to fulfill some political motive He, however assured that the administration of President Yameen would not allow such acts to be carried out. Ambassador Shareef reiterated the administration's stand in its fight against terrorism and violent extremism.

He also highlighted various achievements by the government in its effort to tackle terrorism in the country, such as the establishment of National Counter Terrorism center. On this note he said that the international community has recognized the efforts for this cause.
