Schools to begin using tablets in classrooms during second term

Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Shiham has revealed that when schools reopen for the second term of this academic year, students shall begin using the tablets provided by the Ministry of Education.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony of National Institute of Education (NIE) Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Shiham said, the administration aims to digitalize all schools of the country by the commencement of the second term of the academic year. The Minister cited that work is currently underway to bring necessary changes to the educational institutions to allow the usage of these equipment.

In addition the Education Minister revealed that training programmes are also being conducted to prepare teachers to use tablets in the classrooms. The Maldivian Education Minister said the latest technological facilities will be provided to make the schools more technology-friendly, in order to meet the rising standards of the globalising world.

The Ministry of Education has inaugurated virtual teaching services in 9 schools this year.

The government contracted Maxcom Private Limited to buy 70,000 tablets. The project, funded from the state budget, is expected to cost over USD 8.9 million.

Under the electoral pledge of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, extensive efforts have been exerted in providing and promoting high-quality education for all Maldivian students to foster economically productive and actively engaged citizens.

The administration of President Yameen has brought revolutionary developments to the education sector over the past four years.
