Tourist arrivals increase by 19.2% in February 2018

Despite the declaration of State of Emergency in Maldives, tourist arrivals increased by 19.2% in February compared to the same period last year.

144,286 tourists arrived last month, boosting the number of tourist arrivals to 286,637 in the first two months of 2018, according to monthly statistics of Ministry of Tourism. This is recorded as an increase of 16.3% compared to the same period of the previous year.

Tourist arrivals from Europe was recorded as the most number of tourist arrivals from a single market, making up of 54.5% of overall arrivals. 37.6% of the arrivals were from Asia Pacific, according to statistics.

It is noteworthy that despite the travel advisories followed by the declaration of State of Emergency, the country has received a notable number of tourist arrivals during the past month.
