Will stop burning waste in Thilaffushi by year end

Minister of Environment Thoriq Ibrahim has revealed the administration aims to stop burning waste at Thilafushi Island by the end of the year.

Addressing a ceremony held to receive the landing craft for waste collection in Thilafushi Island, Minister of Environment Thoriq Ibrahim said the administration has successfully completed the installation of incineration systems in the island. Minister Thoriq noted that currently, work on testing these systems are progressing at a fast pace. The Minister said, the project to establish a waste management centre at the greater Male' region would also begin in the last quarter of this year.

Waste management has been one of the most troublesome issues faced by Maldivians. Under the waste management policy initiated by the administration, numerous efforts have been made to tackle the issue. The administration has been successful in tackling major challenges faced in waste management across the nation. The administration has established numerous waste management facilities and has brought revolutionary advancement to the waste management sector.

The administration also aims to eliminate waste in an environment friendly way, using incinerators.
