Maldives non-communicable disease alliance launched

Maldives officially has launched its branch of Non-Communicable Disease (NDC) Alliance. Maldives NDC Alliance is an alliance formed for advocacy of non-communicable disease control and was founded by Tiny Hearts, Diabetes Society of Maldives and Cancer Society of Maldives.

In a ceremony held to officially launch the alliance, the guidelines of the alliance were modified. Furthermore, Co-Founder of Cancer Society of Maldives Dr. Abdul Malik was elected as Chairperson of the NDC Alliance, with member of Diabetes Society Aishath Shiruhana elected as Vice Chairperson and member of Tiny Hearts Jeehan Mahmood elected as Secretary General. In addition, a treasurer, a youth representative, a patient advocacy and a member representative were elected in the ceremony.

Maldives has recorded an alarming amount of cases of non-communicable diseases, Dr. Abdul Malik said briefing the media. He noted all government and non-governmental organisations should work to tackle the challenges to diminish the inclining number of cases of non-communicable diseases in the country.

The Facebook page of Maldives Non-Communicable Disease Alliance was also launched in the ceremony.
