Government eager to involve UN in all-party-talks: Dr. Shainee

Chairman of all-party talks Dr. Mohamed Shainee has revealed the government is eager to involve the United Nations in all-party-talks and reveals that an invitation has already been extended.

Briefing the media on the all-party-talks, Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. Shainee called on the opposition to resume all-party-talks and to solve the current political situation via dialogue. In this regard, Minister Shainee noted the government has extended 12 invitations, since 2015, to the opposition to resume the talks.

Minister Shainee said the government has held secret negotiations with former President Mohamed Nasheed but he later withdrew as the opposition are not sincere in resuming the talks. Minister Shainee assured the government is open for all-party-talks by collaborating with its international stakeholders and refuted rumors the government has rejected the involvement of the United Nations in the talks.

Dr. Shainee concluded by urging the opposition to resume all-party-talks without setting any preconditions.
