President affirms top priority for women empowerment

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has stated that this administration prioritizes empowering women and ensuring women’s rights.

In his message on the occasion of the International Women’s Day, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has reiterated the high priority accorded by this administration to empowering women and ensuring women’s rights. Conveying Women’s Day greetings to all, the President has also expressed his appreciation to women for their invaluable services.

The President has noted the legal amendments brought in order to ensure gender equality and security. He has also said that it was a notable achievement as a nation that the international community recognises the efforts put in by the Maldivian administration towards empowering women and increasing their productivity.

In his message, President Yameen has underscored that the administration also gives priority to increasing women’s participation at the policy making level. In this regard, the President has noted that the administration encourages the involvement and contribution of educated and professional women in all areas of national development. He has also noted the significance of women in the country’s progress.

President Yameen, in his Women’s Day message, has highlighted the measures taken by his administration in promoting women empowerment. In this regard, the President noted the initiative by his administration to appoint 40% women to the board of directors of State companies, and the administration’s goal of providing equal education, and employment opportunities to both genders.

The President reiterated the administration’s commitment and continuous support towards women’s development.
