Vice President Abdulla Jihad has stated Maldivians must always keep in mind the real meaning and bases of patriotism, when celebrating the National Patriotism Day. The Vice President made the statement while addressing the ceremony held to mark the first National Patriotism Day of Maldives.
In his speech, Vice President Jihad pointed out that patriotism is all about the nation, and the foundation upon which the nation was built, which include faith, language, history and culture, as well as the sovereignty and independence of the nation. The Vice President highlighted the challenges faced by Maldives as a nation while speaking at the function. In this regard, he noted the social fabric of the country was being torn to shreds, and that it results as a major setback.
On third January 2018, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom declared the sixth of March every year will be marked as the National Patriotism Day.
