Minister of Legal Affairs at President's Office has stated the oppositional alliance is tarnishing the image of the nation. Azima Shakoor added the administration of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom would not tolerate any action against the core principles of the constitution.
The State of Emergency declared on February 5, was due to the negligence of the judicial sector in following the Constitution of Maldives, the Legal Affairs Minister said speaking on a programme aired on PSM News. In this regard, Azima Shakoor noted the State of Emergency was declared to uphold the principles of the country. She added the State of Emergency serves restrictions to selected individuals who took part in the attempted coup by bribing Supreme Court judges.
The Maldivian Legal Affairs Minister said with the failure of the coup the opposition spread false information in the international community but added as a result of the discussions held with foreign countries, the Maldivian government has been successful in delivering the right and authentic information to these countries. Azima Shakoor urged all Maldivians to refrain from calling for foreign military intervention as such actions would lead the country to further chaos. She concluded by inviting all Maldivians to join hands towards achieving the administration's goal of bringing revolutionary development to the country.
