President appoints Ahmed Shareef as a member of EC

President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has appointed Ahmed Shareef as a member of the Elections Commission of Maldives.

Ahmed Shareef was appointed as a member of the Elections Commission under Article 168(b) of the Elections Commission Act. President Yameen handed the letter of appointment to Ahmed Shareef at a function held at the President's Office.

Furthermore, the Elections Commission revealed Ahmed Shareef has been appointed as the President of the electoral body of Maldives.

The Parliament of Maldives approved Ahmed Shareef as a member of Elections Commission, with 33 parliamentarians voting in favour of the nomination. Prior to his appointment to the Elections Commission, Ahmed Shareef has been serving as the Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation Limited.

The President nominated the former parliamentarian to the position left vacant following the resignation of former President of Elections Commission Ahmed Sulaiman, who is currently serving as the President of National Integrity Commission.
