Regional waste management centre – the solution for Fuvahmulah

Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim has revealed that waste management issues faced by the residents of Fuvahmulah city would be eased, with the inauguration of the regional waste management centre in Addu city.

In an interview with PSM News, Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim said, work on finding incinerators for the waste management centre is progressing at a fast pace while design work has almost been finalized.

Minister Thoriq said that residents of the city have filed complains due to discomfort created by the waste accumulated in the dumping zones, thus the administration has taken swift and strategic measures to address these concerns.

The Environment Minister highlighted that all previous governments have failed to attend to this important issue and assured that the administration of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom would not neglect any concern of the citizens.

Minister Thoriq emphasized that the waste management issue has resulted in additional challenges due to negligence on the part of previous governments. He however expressed confidence that the administration would emerge victorious in its quest to tackle these challenges.  

Minister Thoriq concluded by stating that waste management issues faced by the residents of Fuvahmulah city would be eased via the inauguration of a regional waste management centre in Addu city.
