Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim has revealed that major new services established by the Urban Primary Health Care Centre during the past three years have been well received by the public.
Under Public Health Act, primary health care has been given much focus at the central level with introduction of new services to the primary health care level, Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim said briefing the media on services available from the Urban Primary Health Care Centre. Noting that several new services were introduced by Urban Primary Health Care Centre during the past three years, Health Minister Abdulla Nazim said the government aims to expand the centre to enhance its services. The importance of establishing an Urban Primary Health Care Centre in Hulhumale' and revealed that discussions are underway to achieve the target, added the Health Minister.
Within the past three years, many services attained from Aasandha were established in the centre including counseling, tobacco cessation programme and home visit for elderly people. In 2015 officials from the centre made 131 home visits, while 178 and 224 visits were made in 2016 and 2017 respectively, according to statistics. Under the tobacco cessation programme conducted by the centre, 155 individuals attained services in 2017, while 61 individuals completed the programme successfully.
Established in 1984, Male' Health Centre was rebranded as Urban Primary Health Care Centre in 2013.
