WAMCO establishes waste management facility in Hulhumeedhoo

Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) has established a waste management facility in Hulhumeedhoo, Addu city.

Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) revealed the waste management facility in Hulhumeedhoo would function in three phases which are; waste collection, separation of waste into categories and composition of waste. Waste would be collected and segregated into categories such as organic, hazardous and recyclable waste, according to WAMCO,

Specialised machines are utilized to get rid of wastes such as plastic and tin, Assistant Manager of Hulhumeedhoo waste management facility Ahmed Liraar revealed in an exclusive interview with PSM News. In this regard, he revealed that composition of waste will also be conducted in the facility.

Currently WAMCO utilizes 2 compactor trucks and 1 dumper truck in Addu city, with 510 households and 35 shops registered for WAMCO waste collection services.

Under the waste management policy initiated by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom numerous efforts have been exerted to tackle waste management issues in Maldives. The Administration has been successful in tackling major challenges faced in waste management across Maldives. The Administration has established numerous waste management facility and has brought revolutionary advancement to the waste management sector.
