President believes in an all inclusive development policy

Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed has stated the Administration believes in an all-inclusive development policy, where no sector is left behind.

The prime focus of the Administration is to enhance the tourism and the fisheries sector but noted major development projects have been initiated in sectors such as information technology and agriculture, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed said speaking on The Dialogue programme aired on PSM News. In this regard, Minister Saeed said training programmes have been conducted to make the locals well aware about modern agricultural techniques such as hydroponics and aquaponics systems.

Briefing the Maldivian youth on the latest developmental plans and projects of the Administration, Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed noted the country depended on foreign aid for development in the past. However, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed highlighted that President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom broke the norm by opening several profitable opportunities for investors, which in turn has enhanced the economy and made the country more stable.

Minister Saeed noted that in addition to reviving the dying economy, the Administration has established trade agreements with major economies of the world. In this regard, the Economic Minister emphasised the Administration has always followed Islam and the Maldivian Constitution in implementing development initiatives. On this note, Minister Saeed highlighted the Islamic approach of the Administration has gained much deserved prominence in sectors such as banking and tourism. The Minister said the number of tourist arrivals from Muslim countries have escalated over the past four years which show a positive sign for the Maldivian economy.

Highlighting the efforts of the Administration to expand local tourism in the country, Economic Minister said the aim of developing an airport in every atoll is a huge step towards accomplishing the goal. Minister Saeed concluded by noting the Administration has introduced loan schemes to encourage small and medium entrepreneurs to establish stable business entities.

The Dialogue is an initiative by the Ministry of Economic Development and Public Service Media (PSM) which brings together prominent personalities and provide the Maldivian youth a platform to interact. In the first episode of the programme, Minister Mohamed Saeed was joined on the panel by Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim.
