Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed that Velana International Airport (VIA) will be closed according to the schedule to continue maintenance work on the new runway.
Refuting the information spread on the sudden closure of the airport runway, Managing Director of MACL Adil Moosa stated that a Sri Lankan Airlines flight from Colombo to VIA was cancelled last night due to delays in departure. Landing on VIA was cancelled as it coincided with the closing time of runway, added Adil Moosa.
MACL informed that a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) was issued to all airlines informing of the closure of the VIA every night from 0000hrs to 0600hrs for developmental work effective from March 31, 2016 to September 30, 2018. All airlines are aware of the developmental projects conducted at VIA, highlighted MACL.
