MWSC commences construction of housing towers

Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has commenced the construction of two towers in Hulhumale', as part of the largest housing project, Hiyaa, initiated by the Government of Maldives. MWSC contracted the construction of the project to a China-based company. At a function held, the construction was inaugurated by Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed and Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim.

MWSC housing towers consist of 384 apartments, which include 184 one-bedroom apartments and 200 apartments of two and three bedrooms. The first floor of the towers is planned to be developed as a recreational area with a vehicle parking zone.

The opposition has been spreading rumors about the project despite the swift commencement of the construction of multiple housing towers, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed stated addressing the function. Furthermore, Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim added that the rumors are nothing but false information spread to create confusion in the public.

The current Administration prioritises easing the needs of citizens and assured housing will be provided for 50 percent of the staff upon completion of the project, Managing Director of MWSC Fazul Rasheed highlighted Speaking at the function. The project would be completed within 2 years, according to the Managing Director of MWSC.

Under the project, two 15-Storey residential units will be built in Hulhumale Phase II, to provide housing for the staff of MWSC. Hiyaa project is an initiative of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to provide affordable housing for the employees of state-owned enterprises.
