Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim has revealed that dumping zones will be established in all inhabited islands by the end of this year.
Various extensive efforts have been exerted to tackle the challenges faced in waste management issues in the Maldives, Environment Minister Thoriq said in an interview with PSM News. Minister Thoriq Ibrahim further revealed that discussions have taken place with Fenaka Corporation Limited to provide electricity to the dumping zones.
Waste management has long been a major issue faced in Maldives and the Government has pledged to implement a nationwide waste management policy to tackle the issue. In this regard, the Government has established regional waste management facilities in four atolls, with more such facilities to come into operation this year.
