Total tourist arrival in January records a 13.6% increase

Tourism Ministry has revealed that the total tourist arrival has registered a record breaking 142,351 in the first month of this year. This is recorded as a boost of 13.6% compared to January of last year.

Europe registered the highest amount of tourist arrivals to Maldives which surpassed last year's amount by 19.5% to reach a total of over 76,000, according to the latest statistics published by Ministry of Tourism. While Asia pacific countries were ranked second in the tourist arrival in the first month of this year with a progress of about 3.1% increase culminating to a total of over 52,000 tourist arrivals.

In addition to these regions, America recorded a total of 6,581 arrivals and Middle East recorded 5,567 arrivals. Countries such as Russia, India, France, U.S. and Saudi Arabia recorded a significant increase in the total tourist arrivals to Maldives, according to the statistics. On the contrary, Chinese tourist's arrival witnessed a decline.

A total of 43,032 beds have been registered from which 40,917 beds were used in service last month, as per information provided by Ministry of Tourism. The total average time spent by a tourist in Maldives has inclined by 6.5% in January this year.
