2017-18 is the brightest phase of the sector: Education Ministry

Minister of State for Education Dr. Abdulla Nazeer has revealed that the 2017-18 has become the brightest phase of the Maldivian education system.

In an interview with PSM News, the State Minister Abdulla Nazeer said the education sector has expanded its scope into various new horizons during the administration of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. The State Minister cited the past four years have been marked as the most successful phase in the education sector during which numerous higher education opportunities were provided for the Maldivian youth.

The State Minister highlighted the 2050 scholarship opportunities provided by the Ministry of Education as a major milestone aimed to develop professionals in various sectors. The scholarship opportunities include certificate level to diploma level programmes from various sectors in urgent need of professional youth, according to the Education Ministry.

In addition to the 2050 scholarships, the Government of Malaysia has also granted 500 scholarship opportunities, which include 100 postgraduate and 400 undergraduate programmes. The Education Ministry revealed that additional details about the scholarships would be announced this week.

Furthermore, the Education Ministry also revealed that 10 MBBS scholarship opportunities have been granted by Colombo University of Sri Lanka. The Ministry added that Islamic Development Bank (IDB) has signed agreements to provide educational opportunities in masters and PhD level programmes.
