Maldives: Indian military forces would not invade the country

Minister of Defence and National Security Adam Shareef Umar has expressed full confidence in India that the country would not send its military forces to invade Maldives.

Maldives has not received any warning of an invasion from any foreign nation till date in the administration of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, the Defence Minister assured in an exclusive interview with PSM News. Refuting all claims in the social media stating that Maldives is under the radar of a foreign invasion, Defence Minister Adam Shareef Umar regretted the actions of some Maldivians in boosting such baseless rumors.

In this regard, the Maldivian Defence Minister stated that the Government would not tolerate any action which would prompt strains in the relations with other foreign countries. Highlighting on the close and friendly relations Maldives share with neighboring India, Minister Adam Shareef stated that Maldives pays high regard to the relation with India and assured the foreign policy of Maldives is formulated in a way it would not pose any threat to the safety and security of other regional countries.

On this note, the Minister expressed full confidence in India that the country would not send its military forces to invade Maldives and said that the rumors does not contain any truth and intend to defame the long lasting ties between Maldives and India. Continuing on, the Minister cited that Maldives has not received any warning of an invasion from any foreign nation during the four year period of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom in office.

Minister Adam Shareef added if Maldives gets invaded by such a power neighboring nations would feel its impact. Maldivian Minister assured commitment in abiding by the rules set by foreign and international communities with the ongoing political situation. The Minister reiterated that the nation is capable of deescalating and resolving the current political situation in Maldives.
