Penalties to expatriates who take part in political activities

Maldives Immigration has warned that expatriates found violating immigration laws and participating in any political activity will be subjected to strict penalties.

A statement issued by Maldives Immigration advised expatriates to refrain from participating in political rallies and urged employers to advise employees to abide by the laws and regulation of Maldives Immigration to avoid strict penalties. Immigration noted that strict penalties will be taken irrespective of nationality, capacity or employment.

Mentioning that the authority have received reports the expatriates working in Maldives have been encouraged to participate in political rallies, Maldives Immigration cited that the authority will hold the employers who compel the expatriates to participate in political rallies accountable, adding the employers will also be subjected to strict penalties irrespective of employer’s business sector.
