Defence Ministry denies rumors of external military intervention

Ministry of Defence and National Security has denied rumors of external military intervention assuring that there would be no military intervention from India.

A statement released by the Ministry of Defence and National Security refuted rumors in the media of possible external military intervention in the Maldives. Noting the long and fruitful relations between India and Maldives, the statement underscored the State would always work to ensure the independence and sovereignty of the nation.

Condemning all actions which constitutes a threat to the independence and security of the country, the government claimed that such actions are irresponsible and intended to cause citizens of both nations, as well as other stakeholders, to cast doubt upon the excellent relationship between India and Maldives enjoyed for decades.

The statement reiterated that the Government never requested for foreign country for military intervention or assistance in Maldives. Government further called on to refrain from activities that will threaten the country’s sovereignty.
