Ambassador of Maldives to India Ahmed Mohamed has called on India to increase the prominence in the development of Maldives than China.
Answering a question posed on the increasing prominence of Chinese developmental projects in Maldives, the Ambassador said India also has the fair and equal chance to invest and participate in the development efforts of Maldives.
Ambassador Ahmed Mohamed said it is high time for India to invest in the development of Maldives, expressing that India has been one of the closest and neighboring nation. Maldives regards India as the closest partner in diplomacy, tradition and history, cited the Ambassador speaking to an Indian newspaper.
Furthermore, Ambassador Ahmed Mohamed emphasised that India was the first nation for envoys to be proposed to visit, to brief the current situation of Maldives with the declaration of State of Emergency but expressed regret on India's reply.
The Ambassador concluded by saying the Government would not allow foreign powers to handle the internal matters of the nation.
