Speaking at the function, President Abdulla Yameen stated that it was his aspiration for the Maldives to be a modern, developed civilisation, while ensuring the financial stability and prosperity of the Maldivian people.

President stated that Maldivians must stop undermining the nation's sovereignty and stated that individuals who called for foreign intervention in the affairs of Maldives must apologise, highlighting important lessons from the country's past. In this regard, the President described the call for foreign militia to interfere with domestic matters of Maldives as a crime.

Shedding light on the current situation of the Maldives, the President stated that once the investigation of the events that unfolded following the Supreme Court's order on February 1 are concluded, it would be clear to everyone, local and international, that the opposition had, in fact, attempted to bring a coup and overthrow the lawfully elected Government.
