Government urges visitors to abide by local laws & regulations

The Government of Maldives has urged all visitors to the country to abide by local laws and regulations. The request came at a time when the Maldives Police Service has handed over two visitors to Maldives Immigration for not attaining the proper visa while working as journalists in Maldives.

The two individuals included one British national and one Indian national who had entered the country under tourist visa but were working as journalists in direct contravention of the Immigration Act and other related regulations. The Maldives Police Service has also requested visitors to respect Maldivian Law while urging all visitors to adhere to immigration guidelines and to visit the country under proper and relevant visa corresponding to the purpose of the visit.

A number of foreign journalists currently work in the Maldives with the proper visa and the nation welcomes individuals who wish to work as journalists to visit and stay in the country through the proper lawful channels.
