The Government of Maldives has announced slashing and the leveling of electricity prices for domestic category households in both capital city and the atolls.
In a press briefing held to announce the latest developments of electricity prices, Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim noted that this is the first time prices of electricity and water are levelled in all islands. In this regard Minister Thoriq said that all households in the domestic category which consumes electricity between 0 to 400 units band width would now be the same.
This change will see a slash of about USD 4.9-26 from households consuming electricity between 0 to 400 units band width, according to the Environment Ministry. Minister Thoriq further said the administration aims to provide basic services to the public at a low cost and assured that the recent hike in the oil prices would not have an effect on the prices of electricity and water services.
The Minister revealed that the administration is working on implementing additional ways to minimise the electricity usage in the nation.
