Houthi attacks undermine Saudi Arabian security and sovereignty

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohamed Asim has stated that blatant disregard exercised by Houthi militia in Yemen is undermining the security and sovereignty of Saudi Arabia.

Addressing the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Maldivian Foreign Minister cited that offensive actions of the Houthi militia is a grave provocation, which would add no value to the on-going international efforts to reach a political settlement. Foreign Minister Asim further condemned the offensive actions of Houthi militia in launching ballistic missile attacks against Saudi Arabia, and expressed solidarity with Riyadh.

Minister Asim said that Maldives supports the actions of the United Nations Security Council, and the work of the Secretary-General's Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed in finding a solution to the conflict. The Minister concluded his statement by expressing the desire of Maldives for peace, lasting stability and prosperity for Yemen and support for reaching a final and comprehensive agreement to end the conflict.

Council of Foreign Ministers of OIC held an Extraordinary Meeting to discuss the situation in Yemen and in particular the ballistic missiles fired by the Houthi militia towards Riyadh. Member countries affirmed that their commitment in assisting and supporting Saudi Arabia against terrorism and any attempts to undermine its security, standing in solidarity with it in all its actions and measures seeking to preserve its security and stability.
