Maldives launches new CPF for 2018-2020 of FAO

Maldives launches the new Country Programming Framework (CPF) for 2018-2020 of Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO).

Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture, Dr. Mohamed Shainee and the Representative of FAO for Sri Lanka and the Maldives Nina Brandstrup signed the new CPF 2018-2020, which is a tool used by FAO and the Government to define the priorities of assistance from the United Nations agency to the Maldives. The new CPF is fully aligned with the development objectives of the Government of Maldives as well as the overall Strategic Framework of FAO and the United Nations Development Assistance Framework 2016-20.

The three-year CPF revolves around three country outcomes which are, food production contributes to shared prosperity and household wellbeing; rural livelihoods are more resilient to climate change, and the environment and natural resources are more sustainably managed; and increased capacity of concerned stakeholders to collect, analyse, and utilize data and information.

The Maldivian Fisheries Minister confirmed the support of the Government to the new FAO CPF and expressed appreciation for the continued collaboration between the Ministry and FAO aimed at bringing technical knowledge and innovations to the country.

Meanwhile, Nina Brandstrup noted that CPF sets a path for the support of FAO to the Government of Maldives to reduce poverty and enhance food and nutrition security, while working to increase, diversify and add value to fisheries, aquaculture and agriculture while increasing resilience to climate shocks.

The CPF will be implemented in the broadest possible partnerships and alignment with the joint efforts of the Maldivian Government and its development partners.
