Customs collected revenue increases 8% in December

The total revenue collected by Maldives Customs Service has increased by 8% in December 2017, compared to the same month of 2016. A total of USD 18.6 million was collected through customs duty and other fees and fines during December 2017, according to statistics.

The statistics also showed that goods imported during the last month of 2017 increased by 10%, compared to the same month of 2016, which is an increase of about USD 26 million. The largest quantity of imports to the country was from Singapore, which amounts to 14% of the total imports of December 2017, revealed Customs Service.

Furthermore, the statistics showed that goods exported during December 2017 increased by 96% compared to the same month of 2016, which is an increase of over USD 12 million. In this regard, 60.6% of the goods were exported to Thailand, while 8.3% of the goods were exported to the United States.
